Citizens of Fredericksburg debate shifting band support from private donations to a city levy of up to three mills. The piece praises the Band Boys for fifty years of service and notes other towns use municipal bonds funded by taxes to bolster local music before continuing on page 6.
August Ottmers of Fredericksburg died at home after a lengthy illness at age 79 years 8 months and 1 day. Born October 1 1848 in Selde Hannover he came to Fredericksburg in 1852 with his family. He married Mary Weiershauser in 1871. she died 1900. Surviving are his wife Katharina two sons Albert and Alfred Ottmers a daughter Mrs W R Hansen 21 grandchildren three great grandchildren and several siblings. Funeral services were held at the family residence and interment followed at Cave Creek Lutheran cemetery conducted by Rev Wachmeier. The community mourns a much loved longtime resident.
Mr Rudolph Sehnappauf opens a Battery and Electrical Repair station in Isis near City Garage on lower Main St with modern equipment. The ad appears in this issue. Alvin Hansen of Laredo attended his grandfather August Ottmers’s funeral. Hugo Matthews family visited Austin relatives over the weekend. Mrs H C Maier of San Antonio joined the Chamber of Commerce banquet last Thursday night.
The Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce presents a year ending July 1 1928 summary. It covers finances activities incorporation of Fredericksburg city government publicity efforts including statewide features and radio programs, game and fish support, highway planning for Pecan Belt and Fredericksburg Junction, Main Street paving drives, and tri county efforts on Gulf and Northwest Railroad.
Deputy Sheriff William Pape died at Keidel and Witte Hospital at 12 45 PM after 57 days of wounds from a April 22 Tivydale dance shooting. Suspect Walter Klein, jailed on $5000 bond for assault with intent to murder, was rearrested and held in county jail awaiting another trial.
After a illness of over two years, Wm. D. Bird died at his Cain City home on Sunday June 17. Born in Wilson County he moved to Llano County as a child and married Maud Sullivan on December 17, 1903. He ran a general store at Ecker and later the Cain City hotel. survived by his widow six children a brother and three sisters. Funeral was Monday afternoon by Rev Ra-detzky with burial in Eckert cemetery.
Good Potato Crop Thursday reports Gillespie county soil yields a fine potato grade with exceptionally large tubers. Theo Stahl of Willow City kept seed sacks totaling 165 pounds and harvested 2689 pounds from one sack. Juneke and Schoenewolf warehouse holds 15000 pounds of Gillespie county potatoes, praised as among the best. Master Charles Abernathy of Brady visits Fredericksburg with Dr and Mrs Abernathy.
Mr Ed Biesenbach of San Antonio, formerly with Wagner & Sahabot, is spending his vacation in Fredericksburg. He has frequented the town for many years due to its climate.
The Chamber of Commerce year ended with a Membership Banquet at Hotel Nimitz for about two hundred members and visitors. Lt. Col. Alf supervised ceremonies as various speakers from San Marcos to Gillespie County discussed regional projects and highways.
Messrs. Ad. Hopf and Ad. F. Schmidt returned from Fort Worth where they played with the Llano band in a band concert last Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs F C Weyrich of Eagle Pass and Mr Chester Terry and family of Houston visited Water London and the R G Striegler families of this city last Sunday.
