Enderlin Feed Store Carries On Salvage Work

Fire destroyed the Enderlin Feed Store on June 13. Alfred Enderlin says salvage has been ongoing since the day after the blaze, with grains and feedstuffs being recovered. New shipments arrived and customers are served from adjacent buildings. no fire damaged merchandise will be sold locally.

Mr and Mrs Alonzo Evers and daughters left Friday to spend the weekend with Mr and Mrs M G Kelley in Alice Their daughter Jane remained for a week with her aunt.

Petmecky Not To Seek Reelection This Year

Gillespie County tax assessor collector W M Petmecky announces he will not seek reelection in November. He cites 20 continuous years in office and that the typical maximum term for a single post has been reached. He has no opponent and few assurances of support. Continued on page 6.

Lions To Honor Soil Conservation Contest Winners

Gillespie County winners in State Soil Conservation contests will be honored at Fredericksburg Lions Club meeting. Otto Schneidler Jr. will preside and Howard Goss will deliver the address. Four Pilot Knob Conservation Group members who won $200 in the Fort Worth Press contest will receive awards. Albert Conservation Group’s Otto Schumann will be named outstanding conservation farmer. Medals for prize winning essays go to Antoinette Kraus Oleta Alberthal Frank Schmidt Evelyn Fuhrman.

Gillespie County Scholastic Population Declines in 1950 Census

Gillespie County census figures show a slight drop in scholastics for 1950 totaling 2238, down from 2285. Fredericksburg Independent School District rises to 1185, while Harper Independent School District falls from 310 to 238. Common districts gain to 815, with Stonewall at 150 after consolidation. Other districts list varied counts.

Fredericksburg High Band Rehearsals Begin June 27

Fredericksburg High School bands announce summer rehearsal period starting June 27. Junior Band meets at 6 p.m. and Senior Band at 7:30 p.m. in the music hall twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays through summer while Director David Hargis attends a UT Austin session. He hopes to arrange outdoor free concerts this summer if possible.

Fredericksburg County Residents Called for Federal Petit Jurors

A group of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County residents including Werner Klier Calvin Bier schwabe Alex Frantzen Emil Lange and August Baethge were summoned to Austin on Monday to serve as Federal petit jurors. They returned Monday evening and reported again on Wednesday morning.

Commissioners To Sit As Board Of Equalization

Gillespie County Commissioners Court will sit as the board of equalization on Monday June 26 in the courthouse courtroom. Session opens at 9 a m for inspection correction equalization and approval of assessment lists for 1950. The court also canvassed May 13 school consolidation votes Stonewall 18 0 Williams Creek 38 1 and ordered consolidations proceed.

Three Youths Injured In Main Street Crash

Dayton Elroy and Wilbur Ransleben sons of Mr and Mrs Alvin Ransleben of the Wrede Community were injured in a crash at Main and Adams Streets at 1 30 a m when their car crossed on a green light and was struck by a vehicle driven by L D Garrett of Rankin Texas All three Ransleben youths and Mrs Garrett sustained cuts and bruises but none were in critical condition.

Red Cross Appoints New Gillespie County Director

Rev. C. A. Greenwaldt accepts a director post for the Gillespie County Red Cross Chapter. A nominating committee led by Mrs. Leola Mathisen will propose officers and three directors for the coming fiscal year. Election is set for July 17 at 8:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Court Room.

Night Watchman Killed by Bus in Fredericksburg

Alfred J. Ellebracht, 62, Fredericksburg night watchman for two years, died after being struck by a bus at 11:06 p.m. Saturday while crossing West Main Street near Kraus Corner. Driver George Lawrence Hillmer of San Antonio claimed limited visibility from headlights. Bus passengers faced delays as investigators worked. Hillmer treated for shock. Rites held Monday at Schaetter Funeral Home. Ellebracht, born September 21, 1887, had a long career in law and public service prior to his death.

Race meet entries stream in at Gillespie Fair Park

Fred Mathisen notes continued stable space demand for the July 14 Holiday race meet at Gillespie County Fair Park. He says Fredericksburg’s event is rising as a top state fixture with potential record races. Horses have arrived and trained on the half mile oval as two weeks remain until opening. Scheduled actions include Sunday and Tuesday baseball games.

Dr Dor W Brown Named President Junior Chamber

Dr Dor W Brown an eye ear nose and throat specialist in Fredericksburg was named president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in the annual officers election. New officers include Joe Petsch vice president T J Chapman second vice president Gilbert Eckhardt secretary Vernon Gold treasurer Erwin Anderegg corresponding secretary. Audit of County Books Accepted by Commissioners Court

The audit of the county's books for year ending December 31, 1949, by Balser and Davidson was completed and accepted in the June term. The report commends county officials for careful handling of finances and notes cash balances and securities were verified. It recommends depreciation charges on machinery used in road and tank building and the creation of separate precinct funds.
