Shoppers recieve auction dollars equal to purchases to bid on merchandise auctioned June 14 at 3 p.m. Items include flatware suits luggage jewelry lamps and more. Fred Mathisen, longtime charter member and president of Community Savings and Loan Association, was elected president of the Fredericksburg Lions Club for the 40th anniversary year. A steady stream of visitors explored Lyndon B. Johnson State Historic Park on its first public day. Guests toured exhibits at the Visitors Center until closing, while officials and dignitaries including Dr. Walt Rostow and Mrs. Rostow and Sen. Don Kennard attended. Hospital bids exceed estimates for 50 bed project
Bids for the new 50 bed hospital exceeded the June 30 1966 estimate by over 200000 with Blanchard Associates at 1244548 and W D Anderson Construction at 1295375. The project total rises to 1465000 including equipment fees and admin costs. The board seeks contract cuts to reach the estimate and may need to borrow funds.

Over 300 waterworks operators and managers from south and southwest Texas are expected to register for the 13th Southwest Texas Water Utilities Short School. The three day program in Fredericksburg features four concurrent classes Basic Waterworks and Wastewater Operation Intermediate Water and Advanced Technical sessions with 20 speakers.

Area FFA Ends Convention with Officer Selections
Over 300 Future Farmers of America members concluded the 15th annual convention at Sunday House Restaurant. Dennis Neffendorf of Fredericksburg won the area public speaking contest and was named area vice president. He will vie for state honors at the State Convention in Ft Worth in July. Area officers named include Mike Fields, Charles Real, Bill Bratton, Leslie Madson, and Bubba Lewis. Darylyn Dickey and Karen Pekar were named Sweetheart and runner-up. Dennis Engelke, retiring area president, was named a state officer. Ira Lee, Fredericksburg, earned the American Farmer Degree and was named candidate for Star Farmer of America. Three Fredericksburg members were named Lone Star Farmers.

The Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Naval Museum in Fredericksburg received a 30,000 pound Fairwater from the USS Pintado. The conning tower and periscopes are now shown near the museum as part of the exterior exhibit honoring Fleet Admiral Nimitz.

Peach Queen Candidates Sought At Stonewall Jubilee
Applications for the Stonewall Peach Queen contest are available from Mrs. Jewell Malechek. High school girls in Gillespie county are asked to submit a photo a short bio and a peach recipe with their entry. The Stonewall Queen will be chosen Friday June 20 and the Texas Peach Queen the next night during the Stonewall Arena Rodeo as part of the Peach JAMboree on June 2.
