Mexican Youth Charged With Statutory Offense

Lupe Chacon 18, a Mexican worker in Live Oak, was jailed after an arrest near Kathleen Wilson 19, who reported being accosted while returning from the mailbox. An examining trial charged him with assault with intent to rape and set bond at $5,000.

Peach Growers Hold Second Meeting in Gillespie County

Gil lespie Fruit Growers Association held its second gathering Friday night at the Gillespie County Courthouse. Ten new members joined as County Agent Henry Grote discussed tree diseases and peach marketing tips were offered by Emil Eberle Albert Segner and Clemens Kneese. Secretary Edyth Krauskopf of the Chamber of Commerce pledged assistance in disposing of surplus crop if growers left estimates.

New Doctor Joins Keidel Hospital Staff

Dr. J. Hardin Perry joined Dr. Victor Keidel at Keidel Memorial Hospital beginning July 1. A University of Tennessee School of Medicine graduate, he completed an internship at Wesley Hospital in Oklahoma City and previously worked as a physician and surgeon at Texas Pacific Hospital in Marshall, Texas.

Fredericksburg Band to Perform Second Summer Concert

The Fredericksburg Concert Band will give a second summer concert on Wednesday July 12 at the Courthouse Band Stand. The program includes marches overtures and novelty numbers and begins at 8 30 p m Admission is free.

Mrs Melton Keller underwent an operation. The Gillespie County Mutual Aid Association holds its annual meeting next Saturday. Walter Wood aged 21 of Stonewall was treated at a local hospital after suffering a sun stroke while picking peaches on a Stonewall farm last Saturday.

School Transfers Due Before August First In County

Parents seeking transfers to a school outside their district must apply in the county judge's office before August 1. Transfers must be renewed annually. After August 1 a list of transfers will be sent to local district trustees who may protest transfers. The county school board will hear transfer appeals for cancellation.

Austin Salesman Struck By Car In Fredericksburg

George Nunnelee of Austin, traveling representative for Nelson Davis and Sons Wholesale Grocery, was seriously injured when struck by a car driven by Mrs Willie Kaderli on West Main Street. He suffered a brain concussion and minor injuries and remained under observation.

4 H Club Boys Judge Herefords

Eight 4 H Club boys from Meusebach Creek visited Hilma Henke ranch to study Hereford cattle. They evaluated mature cows, young heifers, four club calves, and a ranch sire, with Roy Henke and family hosting a chili supper. County agent Grote supervised the judging.

Fatally Injured In Car And Truck Collision

Werner Jung 29 of San Antonio died at Nix Hospital after a milk truck he operated for Borden Creamery overturned in a collision with an automobile. Investigating officers reported he was knocked from the vehicle and crushed when it overturned. He died two hours later. Surviving include his wife Mary, infant daughter, and his parents August and Mrs. Jung. siblings Elsie McCall Adelia Burnet Anna Rankin Rita Jung Evelyn Jung Vernella Jung. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 9 a.m. Interment in San Fernando Cemetery.

Thirty Two Fires Within City Limits Last Year

Fire marshal reports 32 fires in Frederickburg from July 1 to June 30, 1939. Causes include gasoline cleaning, overheated stoves, grass fires, trash and flue fires, car fires, and unknown origins. Four people had minor burns. no serious injuries or deaths. Property losses totaled $105,735 with insurance payouts and uninsured losses itemized.

Harper Youth Accidentally Shoots Self

Robert Lang twenty year old son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Lang of Harper was injured Friday afternoon when a 22 calibre pistol in his belt discharged. The bullet entered his right leg near the thigh and lodged above the knee after passing through coins in his pocket. He was treated at a local hospital and released early this week to recuperate at his grandparents home in Fredericksburg.

Giants Batter Ploch Oilers In 16 1 Victory At Seipp Park

Elton Jordan reports the Fredericksburg Giants crushed the Ploch Oilers 16 to 1 at Seipp Park on Sunday. Enderlin allowed one hit a solo homer by F Thompson and struck out ten. Ransleben homered in the eighth as the Giants piled up nineteen hits including four doubles a triple and a homer. The Giants then defeated the Comfort Bronchos in a continuation on page 3 col 3.

Fredericksburg Chamber Banquet Closes Year Despite Rain

The Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce year end banquet, titled Beer Garden Barbecue, moved indoors at Seipp's Park due to heavy rain. A program featured the Fredericksburg Junior Concert Band, Almon Kirchhoff, the Small German Band, and a German Chorus led by Adolf Hopf.
