Soil and Water Committee Meeting Slated March 4
The Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce Soil and Water Committee will meet Thursday night March 4 at 7 p m in the Stonewall Restaurant to hear local proposals and suggest projects in Gillespie and Blanco Counties. Freddie Kraus and Norman J. Dietel lead the effort with Pedernales River watershed planning in view. Field Survey representatives from the State Soil Conservation Service Temple will attend to listen and offer project ideas with local civic groups in Gillespie and Blanco counties.

Leroy Loth manager of Goodyear Service Store in Fredericksburg attends a two week Store Manager Conference School at Goodyear Service Stores home plant in Akron Ohio. Revenue Bond Election For Municipal Sewer Plant Upset
Fredericksburg youths at the San Antonio Livestock Show posted solid prices in Friday’s auction. Meier family, FIA members, sold a champion Shorthorn steer for 1000 dollars to Handy Away Grocery in San Antonio, the top local bid at the 1965 SA Snow. Kevin Malachek led Gillespie 4 H with a Hereford named Sancho bringing one dollar per pound to Lone Star Brewery. Nineteen FFA steers averaged 35 to 47 cents per pound, with some moving to Houston exhibits. Nineteen FFA lambs averaged 47 cents per pound as Albert Usener and Edgar Usener sold top lambs for 95 cents a pound. Eleven FFA market barrows brought 24 to 31 cents per pound, and Douglas Zenner’s pig topped local bids at 31 cents per pound. Five FFA youths sold turkeys for 35 dollars each to Pearl Brewery.

Fredericksburg to Vote March 16 on 150000 Sewer Bond
The City of Fredericksburg calls a $150 000 revenue bond election for March 16 to fund sewer system upgrades including a Contact Stabilization Process aimed at odor reduction and plant expansion planned for about 15 years. The project costs total about 214 000 with federal 660 aid covering 64 200. bonds repaid from waterworks revenues.

Blue Norther Brings Ice and Cold to Hill Country
A blue norther arrived Tuesday bringing snow sleet and frigid air to the Hill Country. Temperatures plunged from the 60s to 19 degrees by Wednesday morning as travel became difficult and schools closed. Firemen fought a blaze nine miles south of Fredericksburg caused by a spark from a flue and lambs and goats faced exposure. County agents warned ranchers to feed livestock if needed as small grain was spared by moisture. Continued on page 8 see 1.
