Gillespie County 4-H Club and F F A Fat Stock Show with 40 animals, 20 calves and 20 lambs, will be held Saturday February 19 at the local Fair Grounds. Judge County Agent Frank Newsom Llano County. Prize money of 100 dollars offered by the Chamber of Commerce. Auction at 1 30 pm for local butchers and other buyers. Breeders invited to exhibit but no judging or prizes for non exhibitors. Four calves may be shown at future stock shows.
Fredericksburg hosts the stage drama The Sacred Mysteries a two show production at St Josephs Hall on Sunday February 13 at 2:30 and 7:45. The forty member cast presents the Mass central act of Catholic worship in a unique religious drama hailed as a standout experience for all faiths.
A deputy collector of internal revenue will be at the Fredericksburg National Bank from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on February 23, 1938 to assist taxpayers in preparing their returns. Calendar year 1937 returns must be filed by March 15, 1938 with the district collector.
Representative Petsch received from Highway Commissioner Wood an order by the State Highway Engineer placing the Fredericksburg to Harper route on the Federal Aid System connecting with the Old Spanish Trail. The change was granted January 20 by the Secretary of Agriculture, marking a Chamber of Commerce victory.

Chester Klaerner Fredericksburg High School athletic director and former Texas League and New York Giant pitcher was elected playing manager of the 1938 Giants in a meeting at Peters Hall. Over a dozen players and local citizens attended, backing a regional league and round robin schedule. Preliminary steps toward involving Boerne and nearby teams were discussed.
South Texas Fair Association members met in Boerne to set 1939 dates and elect officers. G A Koenig of La Grange was named president, L A Schrader of Boerne vice president, and George G Kempen of Seguin secretary treasurer. La Grange will host the 1939 meeting. Monday morning Sheriff Klaerner arrested a 16 year old Dallas youth who had escaped from a juvenile school. The youth in possession of an auto stolen at San Antonio was turned over to Bexar County officers.
January 1938 rainfall exceeds prior years by several inches, with 41 inches observed. Comparisons show 1937 had .98 inches, 1936 had a smaller total, and 1935 recorded .31 inches, highlighting a historic wet spell.

Mrs. Ernst Kallenberg tending stock during her husband illness was kicked by a mule Tuesday morning. A hoof struck her collarbone, fracturing it and causing injury.
Auto license plate sale for 1938 opened briskly with over thirty plates sold on day one. Assessor and Collector Wm. Petmecky said the office will handle more than 2,000 plates before April 1. Max H. Hopf of Harper bought the first automobile plate No 448 551.
A. O. Willman will be in Fredericksburg February 19 at the Legion Hall 156 East Main Street to help veterans and dependents establish claims to government benefits under current laws. He notes the Veterans State Service Office of Texas supports this service and urges bringing claim papers for thorough assistance.
J. C. Creamer announces a new two way daily Creamer Stage Line service to San Antonio. Buses depart here at 9 a m and reach San Antonio by 10 45 a m. Return trips leave San Antonio at 5 45 p m arriving here at 7 25 a m. Six hours available for visitors. In 11 years no accidents and no injuries. Drivers praised for courtesy and safety.
H C Harris Clayton Schmidt Billy Grosse and Jim Zesch distributed circulars in Fredericksburg to promote the Mason County 4 H Club Show on Friday February 18 at 9 A M. Exhibits include 75 baby beeves 31 lambs and 19 hogs from club members.
Fifteen Louis Jordan Post members led by Alfred Neffendorf traveled to Kerrville to hear National Commander D. J. Doherty discuss rehabilitation for disabled veterans, widows, and orphans. The visit continued via Fredericksburg to Abilene where Doherty spoke Wednesday night with State Commander Danforth and his wife.
Returning from a trip to Austin the Kerrville group including Mr and Mrs Charles Turpen their children and Mrs E E Jennings rode along Fredericksburg Comfort Road six miles from Fredericksburg when the car left the road hit a truck and plunged over a culvert Mrs Jennings had a deep cut above the eye Charles Turpen suffered a knee injury and bodily bruises the 6 month old Turpen baby suffered a concussion all were taken to a local hospital for surgical care and had not been released at that time
R. G. Waters state casualty insurance commissioner cited alarming highway fatality figures at a PTA gathering on Friday. He urged education enforcement and engineering reforms and asked attendees to promote safety on the streets. Rev B. E led the opening prayer.
A new two story L shaped hospital with thirty one rooms begins on East Main and North Lincoln Streets in Fredericksburg. Superintendent Harry H Chidsey leads the project with Albert Keidel and Eddie Stein as architects using local labor and natural rock finish. It will feature twelve patient rooms and surgical facilities on the upper floor and doctors offices on the lower floor, with a wing extending west. Completion is projected in six months, cost not disclosed.
Dallas February 8 United States district attorney Clyde Eastus said about half of the 28500 stolen from a mail car en route from the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank to O Donnell Texas has been recovered. Investigators reported recovered sums include 4300 on Sidney Miller and his wife arrested in Atlanta 6000 from a hiding place near O Donnell 3500 impounded in a Ft Worth tank and 1300 found around Brownwood.
Dr. Leon F Zwiener returned from a three day Texas Optometrists meeting in San Antonio. The conference at the graduate clinic focused on childrens visual problems and correction under direction of Dr A M Skeffington a nationally known optometry authority.
