Fireboys Install Officers at Fredericksburg Banquet

Fredericksburg Volunteer Firemen installed new officers at their annual banquet in the Fire Station. Gus Pehl became president replacing Hans Hannemann. Sidney Henke became vice president. Roy Stroeher, secretary. Otto Hahn Jr. treasurer. Louis Loth named to pension board. Twenty five year pins awarded to Hannemann, Rausch, Bruns, Schaefer. Grinke Jr. got 20 year pin. five year pins to several members. Rookie Award went to Clifford Duecker. Joe Meurer Jr. received his pin as a Central Texas Firemen’s Association participant.

Wage and Hour Law Discussion Here February 16

Bob Lovk of the Department of Labor will discuss the new wage and hour provisions in Fredericksburg on Thursday at 1 30 p m in the Commissioner Courtroom. Sponsored by the Frederickburg Credit Bureau the event invites merchants, especially those with gross receipts of 400000 or more, to attend. The talk also interests firms with $250000 plus receipts likely to be covered soon.

City approves convention center permit and home addition

The City of Fredericksburg issued a 150000 building permit for a two story convention center restaurant and private club in the 800 block of Fast Main Street. A separate 500 permit was approved for Harvey C. Althaus to add a utility room at 329 West Hackberry Street.

Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department warns merchants about unauthorized solicitors using the department name. Officials say no one is authorized to sell ads for programs or insurance. Call city office if contacted.

Woods Installed as New Stonewall Chamber President

Harold Woods was installed as president of the Stonewall Chamber of Commerce during the annual meeting last night. Roy Weinheimer retired as president and a new slate of directors including Mrs. Ernest Hodges Dr. Herbert Merz and James Welgehausen were installed alongside holdover directors. The group, with 60 individual and 87 business members, highlighted the LBJ State Park development plans and praised public private funding efforts as a model for tourism driven growth.

Snow and Sleet Bring Moisture To Parched Land

Doss area reports eight inches of snow with drifts over three feet and widespread moisture as a cold front draped sleet and snow across the region. Fredericksburg sees two inches with temperatures in the low 20s while Grapetown records eighty percent moisture mostly as rain. High winds damage TV antennas and trees and roads become hazardous prompting state and city crews to respond.

Boening motion for new trial overruled in district court

A O Boening had his motion for a new trial overruled in the 38th District Court this morning. He was convicted in November of murder with a motor vehicle and sentenced to two years in the penitentiary. Boening's attorneys raised seven points in the motion before Judge Marvin Blackburn, and after the ruling they gave notice of appeal.

FHS Band Dinner Concert Draws Large Crowds

Fredericksburg High School hosted a sold out band dinner and concert with several hundred musicians. Director Tom Rhodes reported 2097 attendees at the noon luncheon as the afternoon program featured the four school bands and visiting directors from Texas schools.

Fredericksburg Fire Department Logs 82 Calls in 1966

Fredericksburg volunteer firemen answered 82 calls in 1966, 43 city and 39 rural, about seven per month. City fires cost insurers $3,683.66. Fire Marshal Henry Kuene mann noted 10 car fires, 12 grass and brush, 6 building blazes, 16 other incidents, and urged adherence to burning ordinances.

Hill Country Memorial Hospital Plan For Fredericksburg Area

Fredericksburg officials outline a new Hill Country Memorial Hospital to serve the area with a live oak seal. Alfred Crenwelge leads the hospital study committee now acting as the board of trustees, with an 11 to 12 member expansion and a 25 member advisory board drawn from local communities. The plan adopts by laws modeled on Texas hospital groups and draws guidance from the Texas Hospital Association and Texas Medical Association. The board will serve unremunerated terms of one to three years to ensure continuity.
