Huge Crowds Attend Hospital Opening in Fredericksburg

A crowd estimated in the thousands toured the new Denop Clinic and Hospital at South Adams and East San Antonio street on Sunday. Dr. P. T Donop and assistants led visitors through the reception area. Dr. Rudolph Marshell began moving dental equipment in on Monday. Dr. Donop already moved his office to the new building. Wallace Brodie of San Antonio visited during Christmas.

United Telephone Improves Its Local System in Fredericksburg

Under J I Logan, work began in May to upgrade the local inter city branch, replacing poles and cable, removing street wires, installing model ringing gear, and rewiring party line stations to boost service and keep up with recent equipment advances.

Body of Crash Victim Identified in Cuexso Texas

The 17 year old George Hughes, son of a Cuero area farmer, died after being struck on the Cuero Yoakum Highway two miles north of Cuexso. He was identified by local grocer J A Hare after his body lay in a morgue nearly 18 hours. A driver for Cage Brothers, J B Chesnutt, said to be at fault, claimed fog and glare blinded him.

Traffic Deaths Set All Time High Record

The National Safety Council forecast 1937 traffic deaths near 40,000, an all time high. Through November 1937 the toll reached 35,610, up 6 percent from 1936, while gasoline consumption rose about 6 percent. The council notes no actual rise in death rate per mile.

A local committee reports the Highway Commission has allotted 320000 for Unit Two of the Harper Road in Gillote County from the 1937 funds. An investigation found about 500000 remained unspent in 1937 and the commission moved to complete the project for safety and progress.

Hunter Shot While Dislodging Bird's Nest

Eldridge Duke aged 24 was shot in the left leg on Saturday while attempting to punch a bird's nest from a tree with the butt of his gun. He and a companion were rabbit hunting and he was taken to Red River County Hospital in Clarksville.
