San Antonio Youth Dies Of Accidental Gun Shot Wound
Earl Wayne Fowler seven year old son of Mr and Mrs C A Fowler of San Antonio was accidentally shot and killed by his brother Charles Allan Fowler nine while on a squirrel hunt on the Gammenthaler ranch near Harper. The shot from a .22 rifle struck his chest. Justice of the Peace War Bruns ruled accidental death. Funeral services were held August 20 at Beckmann Funeral Home with burial in City Cemetery. Survivors include his parents his brother and grandparents.

Wounded Sgt J D Lang in Korean conflict reported
Sgt J D Lang 27 son of Mr and Mrs H A Lang was wounded in his right hand in Korea on July 15. He wrote from Japan that he may lose a thumb but hospital crowds slow care. He describes 36 days on the line and heavy losses. Lang served in World War III with the Coast Guard 1942 46 and re enlisted in 1948 for three years. His brothers Archie and H A Jr Lang also serve in the Army.

Gillespie County Sees Tax Rate Increase to 6 Cents
Gillespie County adopts a 6 cent increase in the tax rate this year raising the total levy to 74 795 16. The Jury fund and Courthouse Jail Bond funds gain 4 and 2 cents respectively while other funds stay at current rates. School taxes range from 25 cents in Pec an Creek to 1 40 dollars in Harper with many rural districts at 70 cents. Fredericksburg and Harper districts see notable rises in rate.
