Hill Country license plan could boost Gillespie game funds

The proposed universal hunting and fishing licenses across Hill Country counties would direct about 90 percent of revenues to the county of purchase. In Gillespie County license sales totaled around 5,000 dollars last year and could fund wardens, feeding, stocking, and protection if landowners and chambers cooperate by directing buyers to purchase licenses in their county. There is also a call for a ten percent tax on licenses to pay crop damages suffered by small farmers from deer, a provision legislators did not retain, raising concerns about future wildlife protection and farmer compensation.
