Frankfort officials will revisit an ordinance restricting corn planting within 150 feet of village lot lines at the next meeting on Monday September 20. Trustee Earl Lintner reported objections from neighboring farmers. Ed and his wife testified about 22 years of farming and reliance on the corn harvest for cattle feed.
More than 100000 visitors attended Frankfort’s three day Chamber of Commerce fall festival with police estimating a possible final tally up to 150000. Crowds packed streets Saturday and Sunday as arts crafts and food booths drew locals and visitors amid easing drizzle Monday. Parade entries numbered 140 with awards going to Crown Point Royal Regiment band Frankfort village board and others. Industry prize winners included Frankfort State Bank as top commercial float and Tinley Park Tips as best civic float. Major honors went to Medinah Indians for marching units and Chicago Heights fire department for modern fire trucks. Continued on Page 4.
Frankfort police and fire crews faced crowds at the annual fall festival. Police Chief Darrell Sanders called it typical with more parking and underage drinking issues. About 25 cars were towed for illegal parking and seven minors were cited for consuming alcohol. Arrests totaled 15 to 20, similar to past years, with seven or eight for public consumption or disorderly conduct. The Oktoberfest tent was not closed by police, though closing time enforcement did end at midnight Friday. Klaus Ditschler, tent owner, said he closed Monday due to aggrieved staff and drinking by workers.
