Cable TV Findings indicate survival
Cable TV, after a rough period, appears to survive and reach critical mass despite early losses and high costs. It notes growth in basic and pay services, rising penetration from 12 to 56 percent since 1972, with forecasts of 40 to 50 million subscribers by 1987 and 1995. Predictions include 34 ad supported networks and 10 pay channels by 1983, but a shakeout looms as viewer shares and ad budgets tighten.
