Illinois lawmakers push multiple bills amid stalled income tax hike
In the Illinois General Assembly last week several measures advanced despite the stalled income tax increase. The abortion parental notice bill drew support from area senators, while drunk driving reforms passed the Senate with mixed party votes and shifts in hearing authority. Additional actions included four-year driver licenses, gasoline tax hikes, vehicle registration surcharges, and a raised homestead exemption for seniors. A House-backed Freedom of Information bill passed 88 to 18, with two local reps voting against. The Citizens Utility Board concept also moved forward with potential voluntary memberships.
