Opposition floods Hickory Creek project over mud and erosion

Hickory Creek flood control plans face strong environmental criticism from residents led by Bonnie Baird of Hickory Creek Valley association. They cite the nearby Sauk Trail reservoir west of Harlem Avenue as a mud flat with sedimentation erosion and lack of vegetation, challenging the project’s recreational benefit claims and $25 million cost. The group estimates about 140 homes could be affected as the plan would stretch from Ironwood Court in Frankfort to Lincolnwood Hills in New Lenox, with testimony supported by residents Beverly and Jim May and Barbara Healy.
