Fire truck overturns in Illinois crash with fatalities
A New Lenox volunteer fireman died and another was seriously hurt when a tanker truck swerved to avoid a car and overturned at Routes 30 and 45 in Frankfort. Ken Lobbe, 19, was pronounced dead at Olympia Fields hospital. Mark Hatalla, 26, was treated at Northwestern Memorial with back and shoulder injuries. A third New Lenox firefighter, Kevin Keeley, 23, and the other car occupants were released from hospital. Firefighters were responding to a mutual aid call for a house fire when the crash occurred near Steve's Texaco. The tanker struck a utility pole and light poles as witnesses reported it traveling at a high rate of speed.
