The South Inter-Conference Association announces a five division realignment starting 1983 84 with changes to East West North and Central groupings. New regions affect team placements including Eastridge Westview consolidation and removal of Lockport and Lincoln Way from North.
Kenny Thompson steered Providence with precise passing and scoring, proving his value as the Celtics anchor. The victory kept Providence competitive in the Private School league race as Thompson showcased his playmaking in a standout performance.
Providence led 10-6 after the first quarter and 29-17 at halftime then pulled away in the third to defeat Nazareth Academy 56-38. Thompson scored 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting with 4 free throws, while Kamarauskes and Petrie added 34 combined for Providence, who dominated the inside game and defensive boards.
Last week results show Onkakee Westview 56 beat Branny 4 in the Private School League. Chicago Christian 70 defeated Aurora Central 58. Providence 56 over Nazareth 38. Luther South 55 over Nazareth. Liliana Christian 53 over Joliet Central 78 and Stagg 35. Bloom Trail 69 over Joliet West 64 Lemont 61. Evergreen Park 51.
The current SICA divisions show teams in two groups with Reavis Sandburg Eisenhower Shepard Richards Oak Lawn Stagg Argo in the West and Rich Central TF South Oak Forest Tinley Park Andrew TF North Hillcrest Bremen in the East. The lineup names 14 teams across both divisions.
Lincoln-Way avenged an early loss by edging Providence 31 27 Friday night. Tim Meagher missed weight at 105 pounds for a forfeit to Mike Strick, but the Knights still won as Derek Smith pinned Brian Madigan at 98 pounds after trailing 5 2. Seniors Rick Pedigo Brian Capodice and Al Murray won pivotal bouts, and Gary Ringenberg pinned Jim Donovan in his first varsity match to seal the victory.
