Christmas nears as Lincoln Mall parking lots remain crowded with suburban shoppers rushing to finish gifts. With Christmas on Saturday, shoppers have under a week to complete their rounds.
The Illinois Commerce Commission delayed its decision on overturning an order that allowed Prestwick Utilities a 25 percent water and sewer rate rise for Frankfort Square and Prestwick customers. Arguments over a larger 40 and 52 percent request were heard, with a final decision expected soon but not before April 16, potentially prompting an appeal if not decided. Minimum water charges and tiered rates are outlined, with sewer charges at $20 per month per dwelling.
Illinois law blocks a April vote to replace Mokena Village President Richard Quinn, who plans to resign in April. The village board must choose a replacement, as 130 days before the general election and 28 months remaining are not met. Quinn worries over timing and interim options.

Will County board approved a one year lease to house all county women prisoners in Joliet city jail beginning January 1 for a fee of 1. Sheriff John Shelley said staffing will require four deputies on duty daily, with nine extra hires proposed but not budgeted. County jail currently holds 94 inmates with 10 women slots. Joliet jail holds 24 with 12 double bunks. The plan awaits Joliet officials’ approval and will reserve four double cells for the Joliet police.
