Railway wreck near Horse Shoe Falls claims six lives

Two Convicts Escape from Joliet Prison in Nighttime Break
Edward Quinn and Harry Harmon, both inmates at the state penitentiary, slipped from the hospital ward after sawing through a barred window. New York August 31 Theodore Cooper chief consulting engineer on the cantilever bridge across the St Lawrence river that collapsed killing 79 workers expressed self reproach for not visiting the site in two years citing ill health. He said he warned the on site manager to keep off the bridge the day of the collapse and doubted if the warning arrived in time. Cooper, 68, is noted for work with James B Eads on the St Louis bridge.

Small girl knocked down by street car on Broadway
