St Paul Steamer Sets Remarkable Maiden Passage Speed

The American line steamer St Paul, Captain Jamison, arrived in New York Harbor after a maiden voyage from Southampton in six days seventeen hours and fifty one minutes. A twenty one hour port engine stoppage due to a faulty air pump slightly slowed the run, with average 21 knots for a full day and easterly winds prevailing. Passengers praised the ship, noting near absence of engine vibration during the trip and the overall success of the voyage despite the stoppage.

Cattle Movement Out of Amarillo Tops 100000 Head

Reports from Texas on October 26 indicate a large cattle movement from the Panhandle and Amarillo region. More than 30,000 whiteface cattle have shipped to northern markets, with total out of Amarillo expected to reach 100,000 head, valued around 2.5 million dollars, making Amarillo a major original shipping point worldwide.

Goffin Sentenced Eight Years in Bank Wrecking Case

Francis A Coffin, former president of the Indianapolis Cabinet Company, was found guilty on seven counts in the wrecking of the Indianapolis National Bank and sentenced to eight years in the penitentiary. Boiler explosion hits harbor tug Morford near Fifteenth Street

A boiler explosion aboard the tug Morford of the Dunhim Company occurred just before 4 AM in the river near Fifteenth Street. Two men were killed and three others seriously injured including Charles Dix and Rohn Cullihan. Captains John Ferguson and others were among the fatalities or injuries.
