The attacker Marie Andre Victor Leon Bouteilhe, son of a railroad officer, bombed M de Rothschild's Paris bank. Educated in Paris, he drifted from office work to unemployment, assembling the device in a Vincennes yard. He claims protest against wealth and education without work, denying letter threats.
