Tragic end to Kendalville postmaster dispute

In Kendalville Indiana on May 16 Christopher Browand, former postmaster, hanged himself in a barn after a weeks long political feud over postmaster appointments. Browand, 68, had recently returned from a sanitarium and faced nervous strain amid the bitter fight between factions supporting Capt G P Alexander and Browand. His body was found in a hayloft after he tied a rope to a trap door. Browand's removal and the surrounding political struggle intensified local tensions and drew national attention as investigations and resolutions followed. Browand leaves a widow and daughter.
