Funeral services for the late Patrick McCarthy were held this morning at St Patrick's Catholic Church. A large concourse of friends attended to pay respects to the venerable pioneer. Rev J F Delaney officiated at the high mass and delivered the sermon, assisted by several priests. Among those present were former Mayor John P Hopkins and other local dignitaries.

Sherrick Must Stay in Prison Pending Appeal

The biennial session of the supreme tribe of Ben Hur drew about five hundred visitors to Crawfordsville Indiana on May 15. D W Gerard supreme chief presided with city and state officials presenting welcomes. The afternoon report showed growth in certificates and funds from 1904 to 1906 with protection in force rising from about 100 million to 113 million dollars.

A group of more than twenty eastern financiers under Chandler Bros. & Co. and John McAfee inspected traction line properties in Fort Wayne, including Robison park and the Spy Run power station. They traveled by private and electric cars, then continued by Woodstock limited to Logansport and Indianapolis en route to Lexington and Old Point Comfort.

Nickel Plate Man Killed at Latty
T. M. Henderson known as Percy, a Nickel Plate brakeman of Fort Wayne, was crushed between two freight cars at Latty Ohio shortly after 6 am Tuesday. He, about 32, unmarried, lived with a Boone street family in Fort Wayne. Relatives live in Ohio. Remains to be moved to Peltier undertakers this afternoon.

Western Gas Construction's Guidlin Reports San Francisco Afterquake
President O N Guidlin of Western Gas Construction returned from San Francisco where he photographed the ruins after the quake and fire. He describes the devastation as complete and notes a massive water main rupture driven upward by the quake, killing a horse. His sister’s home escaped the disaster belt. Several aftershocks occurred during his visit.

Dedication Set for August 5 at Lutheran Hospital
At the annual meeting of the Lutheran Hospital association the date of Sunday August 5 was chosen for the formal dedication of the South Fairfield avenue hospital. Reports showed total expenditures of 74148.08 with details for site purchase, fitting up, equipment, new building costs, and grounds improvement. The hospital interne Dr. E Smith reported 338 cases from Nov 16 1904 to May 1 1906 with 22 deaths and a 63 10 percent ratio. Officers elected included Rev Philip Wambsganss president and August Freese financial secretary.

Freight Trains Plow Together Injuring Engineer in Collision
Two sections of freight No. 53 on Nickel Plate tracks collided at 2:35 PM near Bogue street. Engineer C Ho VanGorder was rescued with head cuts and bruises but not life threatening. Conductor Weigel and Brakeman Swaynie escaped unharmed. Five empty cars and the caboose of the rear unit were smashed, track damage minor, all hands responded with wrecking crews and ambulances.
