The YWCA campaign reports 62,440.40 total with 8,517.50 pledged today as four days remain. Rabbi Rice praised the effort at a luncheon, while divisions led a chorus of optimism and volunteers redouble canvassing to reach 100000 dollars.
A Republican conference of the Indiana General Assembly members is scheduled for May 16 in Indianapolis at the Claypool. Leaders Will R. Wood and Jesse E. Eschbach signed the call urging all Republicans to unite and overlook factional lines for the 1912 campaign. The plan aims to map a party-wide strategy without honoring Bev eridge or Hemenway Watson factions.
George D. Gaby of Brimfield Noble county was appointed by Governor Marshall to the Indiana school for feeble minded youth succeeding Albert P. Sinclair. He was elected vice president of the board at its Tuesday meeting. Officers re-elected include Rev A M Ellering president James W Sale treasurer and Mrs Mary I Harper secretary. Contracts were let for a water softening plant to Northern Water Softener of Madison Wis and for two high pressure boilers to Bass Foundry and Machine Works. The new cottage for women will be ready for occupancy June 1.
The twentieth annual meeting of the General Society of the Daughters of the Revolution opens in Baltimore and runs through Friday. A tablet in Bancroft Hall at the Naval Academy Annapolis will be dedicated Thursday to sailors of the Revolution. Kent B. Gage of Marion returns to Baltimore and will be rehired by Alt Heidelberg cafe management.
Four men escaped serious harm after a Cadillac touring car owned by A Z Polhamus veered off a road near Huntertown at about 7 am Tuesday. Polhamus and Harry M Bowser suffered fractures and bruises, while S B Bechtel and C E Saunders were bruised. They were treated at the hospital and returned home. the car was damaged and moved to a local garage.
Dr E J McOscar of this city was elected a delegate to the Knights of Columbus national convention to be held in Detroit. The Indiana state convention closed in Richmond last night naming Indianapolis as the next site. Officers elected include William Fox of Indianapolis deputy William V O'Donnell of Columbus secretary Lewis F Miller of Vincennes treasurer Father J W Cronin Rushville chaplain Charles B Cronin Peru advocate.
The application by John J. McNamara for fixing bail on the dynamiting charge was disallowed by Superior Judge Bordwell, but without prejudice and with leave to renew it at any time.
Forty two indictments were returned by the Federal Grand Jury after a nine day session in Indianapolis. Among those named are Frank Addison charged with theft from the Indiana Soldiers Home, John H. Belcher accused of stamp removal, Edward M. Shell for mail fraud, Leo Lebote for post office robbery, and others involving counterfeiting and citizenship fraud. Arraignment is set for May 17.
Fire of unknown origin destroyed two barns and their contents on Daniel Fisher’s farm five miles north of Columbia City Indiana. Loss far exceeds insurance of one thousand dollars with 100 bushels of wheat 500 bushels of corn two tons of hay two buggies farming implements and harness burned. Calves and chickens perished in the blaze and outbuildings near the barns were also lost. The house narrowly escaped as firefighters focused on saving the residence.
The American Federation of Labor issues a plea for funds to defend the McNamara brothers jailed in Los Angeles for dynamiting. The federation’s executive council will collect and disburse the money, with possible Supreme Court involvement.
