BUDD SWINDLED IN NEW YORK FRAUD SCHEME
Francis F. Budd formerly foreman at Hoosier Manufacturing in Fort Wayne sued Henry E. Simmons and William B. Frink in New York for bonds on swindlers Hawkins and Mitchell. Budd, who came to Utica after responding to an ad, paid $600 for a purported first class business and bondsmen who would not honor the bond. The case ties to the death of Wo. P. Collins and offices at 136 Liberty street with Collins & Co. and “Hawkins and Mitchell.” The bondsmen claimed the bond ran to 1896. Budd seeks repayment and justice.

Tragedy on Pittsb Track Claims Two Lives
Roman Bokrer and Sophia Heuschen of Al township were walking along the Pittsburg double track near Arcola when Pittsburg passenger No. 7 struck them at speed. Miss Adelaide Bell and Fred Henschen escaped, while Mr Bokrer and Miss Heuschen died instantly. Det. Chest Kraus aided in the grim rescue and investigation.
