Congress Opens With Reed Elected Speaker in Congress

Washington December 2 Congress convened at noon with crowds filling the galleries as Thomas B Reed of Maine secured the speakership. The House and Senate opened amid celebration and floral displays while Reed pledged impartial, cooperative leadership and a prompt, orderly session.

Langerman freed after assault conviction reversed in city court

Walter Langerman, convicted of first degree assault on Barbara Aub, was discharged by Recorder Gail who ordered a new trial after Aub admitted large harm and that she lied about prior guilt. The case followed a second, unrelated story of a shooting and brawl near Fort Wayne with several arrests and injuries.

Budd Swindled in New York Swindle Case

Francis F Budd a former Hoosier Manufacturing foreman filed suit in New York against bondsmen William B Frink and Henry E Simmons for $600 each tied to failures of swindlers Collins Hawkins Mitchell and others.
