A Fort Wayne clairvoyant disappeared with about $1,200 once held by a young woman who recently inherited money. The tale details how the fraud unfolded from readings to a safe deposit box, leaving the victim with only a single dollar. The swindler’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Otto Grepke of 264 St Marys Avenue attempted suicide with rough on rats amid family illness and mounting troubles. After ingestion he suffered severe pain until Dr Stults performed a stomach pump and he survived the episode. The 45 year old spooler at Wayne Knitting Mills is married with many children and had worries over medical bills.
Colombian minister Dr. Silva met with Secretary Hay in Washington in a private exchange. He reported that traffic across the Isthmus remained unobstructed and that Colombia could keep it open without U.S. military intervention unless Colombia requested help. Hay affirmed U.S. restraint and disinterested aims, ready to act only if Colombia cannot maintain free traffic.
Quito reports a force of Ecuadorian troops prepared to invade Colombia with a battle imminent near Pasto, close to the frontier about 150 miles northeast of Quito.

Marketmaster William Ropa and Mr and Mrs W W F Ropa and Mr and Mrs C L Dasler occupy the Tigar cottage at Rome City for a few days.
Mrs. Charles McCulloch of this city was robbed of diamonds and jewelry valued at 1000 to 1200 dollars in Chicago last Friday evening. She had been visiting her son-in-law and daughter and, during lunch with friends, a skilled pickpocket stole the gems. A man suspected is under arrest though recovery of the jewelry is not certain. Mrs. McCulloch returned home the next day.
Secretary Hay plans to leave for Canton within a day or so. The State Department says the visit is not tied to a single issue but to a general opportunity for a broader exchange with President Roosevelt. The trip may touch on South American tensions and the Chinese situation, though no topic is singled out.
Dispatches from Somerset indicate anonymous letters to regimental commanders of the Pennsylvania National Guard warning against firing on steel strikers. Authorities, including the U S postal service, are investigating while Post Office Inspector O'Brien is unavailable in Pittsburgh.

Dr HM H Thomas greets guests at the door as lemon sherbet and wafers are served and souvenir bouquets given, marking a welcome home that the congregation long awaited.
Seven of fourteen injured in the National Steel plant blast furnace department in Youngstown Ohio have died. Names listed include Richard Richardson John Cruikshank Mike Joerinka Andy Kahut Mike O'Brien Joseph Bugos and George Malnik. Two more are in very serious condition. A faulty metal handling machine caused the accident.
Bishop Alerding awarded the contract for a hot water heating system at the new episcopal residence at Lewis and Clinton streets to James Madden for 1400 dollars. Work to begin immediately. Hardware contract went to Romiary and Goegline for 312 dollars.
Andrews Indiana August 19 Receiver A C Wilkerson reports a list of the bank wreck depositors. Several presumed heavy losers appear to have overdrawn their accounts instead The report also shows H W Leach Avilla banker overdrawn his account to 491 dollars.
New York reports the American Sugar Refining Company and independent firms have reduced all grades of refined sugar ten points to the basis of 85.25 for standard granulated. Part of a local note mentions the birth of a daughter to Mr and Mrs Albert Fraey of 83 Marion Street.
