Separate Entrance For Interurbans Proposed At Meeting

At a Friday meeting Mayor Hosey and city and railroad engineers discussed track clearance at Calhoun street and Broadway for elevated lines. Interurbans require sixteen feet clearance, while local street cars need thirteen and a half to fourteen feet. A separate tunnel for interurbans was proposed. detouring via the Gay street bridge was deemed impractical. Officials also reviewed a former cross country survey and considered focusing clearance on city cars with interurbans addressed later. A second brief session measured interurban cars to determine exact tunnel needs. The board seeks an estimate soon for track elevation funding under new tax levy rules, with a council committee invited to join the afternoon session.
