A New York child reported missing for seven days was located and found strangled with marks suggesting a nameless assault. Police are investigating the case as a murder.
A young girl Kathe Driechter was found murdered in a tenement cellar at 208 Fifth Avenue. Detectives trace a possible maniac linked to other strangulations including Sophia Kohrer, prompting warnings to parents as police seek a suspect tied to assaults on women and children. The coroner inquiry and police plans include expanding patrols and possibly new night courts to handle rising arrests.
Coroner Stults investigates the death of Frederick Oppenheimer aged years after an electric shock on his rear porch while turning on a lamp. Post mortem notes a diseased heart. physicians caution that heart condition could trigger fatality even from minor shocks. Neighbors and fire department tested the scene. Mrs Oppenheimer recalls the sequence leading to the fatal mishap.
Myr. Oppenhelmer was born in Fort Wayne in 1848, son of Abraham and wife, pioneer merchants of the city now residing in Talode. He had lived in Fort Wayne for many years before moving. Survived by four sisters: Mrs Henry Botti of Toledo, Mrs Jonas of Logansport, Mrs Hryvna of Chicago, and Mrs Adaipl Gulmudhery of Smithnare.
The Western Grain Dealers association met at the Commercial Club rooms to discuss crop conditions and the trade outlook. Attendees from Toledo Pittsburgh Cincinnati Grand Rapids Clarksville Wheeling and other centers debated how farmers can receive better prices and how grain dealers can ensure fair value for consumers amid rising hay yields and heavy corn wheat and oats production.
