The Lutheran General Synod of Indians, Missouri, Ohio and other states, comprising the middle district, met in Evaneville on Friday with large attendance. The executive board report notes rapid growth in the Northwestern states and a strong rise in new churches built in the past year, evidencing tireless Evangelical council efforts.
In Laananak Indiana the Democratic party fractures as Ellison loyalists form their own group after a central committee dispute. Arguments center on representation by proxy, with Pence of Newbury township and McKee of Lima contested. A mass meeting is set for August 4 to elect delegates to the congressional convention.

They head to Gilder's summer home for a short stay. July 28 The Susquehanna Yacht with President Cleveland aboard remains here. He fished in Great South Bay on a small boat and reportedly caught forty blue fish. July 28 Mrs Cleveland prefers not to meet strangers and stays indoors.
Eugene O Zenzins, a resident of Pianopolis who had come from St Paul Minnesota and married Miss Kittie Morton, killed himself last night at the Meridian Street M E Church during a prayer service by swallowing two ounces of carbolic acid in the ante room. No motive is given and domestic relations are described as pleasant.
July 27 reports from Omana describe Johu Anderson entombed in a Johnstown well while repairing. After six days without food or drink, latest advices say he remains alive with a good chance of rescue.

New York on July 28 reports a weekly bank statement with Reserve up by 675 775, loans down 141 900, specie down 362 200, legal tender up 436 160, deposits down 2 207 500, and circulation down 87 000. Banks hold 27 316 175 in excess of the 25 percent rule.
Oxteano Illinois reports Rudolph Sevie arrested before daylight for supplying dynamite to conspirators aiming at law officials. He admits selling over fifty pounds in a year, ten to Chicago, tying bombs to Hronek and Chapent case. Ouni0aco Burlington cases: Hoge Murphy released on bonds. others fled. Hroneck jailed. bonds forfeited with 48 hours to reinstate.
Suanenai reports a Bandaisan eruption fifty leagues from Yokohama destroying several villages and killing about 1,000 people including 100 visitors at thermal springs. A new crater has formed and the eruption remains active.
Personal notes report D W Shea of Peru shaking hands with friends Tuesday and Joseph Brudi attending a Lutheran synod meeting in Evansville. Marriages include Fred Paulson and Miss Lizzie Oaps in Binghamton and Chas Gross with Miss Hannah Mack in Marysville. George Thiebold becomes New Haven hotel landlord. A hog pen fronts Summit Street as residents criticize the board of health for filth and sickness.
The city undertakers report a weekly death list listing numerous infants with cholera infantum and other causes. Names include Louisa Roembke six months and Anna Sonne one year with brain fever, Henry I Browser seventy two with dropsy, Elizabeth Gay sixty five with cancer, among others.
Wasatnaton July 26 Colonel Matson, future Indiana governor, acted as speaker pro tem in the house. About fifty members pressed him for swift passage of bills as dozens lined up at his desk to record names for recognition. Despite repeated points of order and confusion, Matson maintained order and guided proceedings deftly.
At a conference of glass bottle blowers and manufacturers in Pirtssura the wage scale for the coming year was amicably arranged. About 5,000 workers in the west will resume operations when the furnaces are fired on September 1. The scale raises wages slightly on novelties but is otherwise unchanged from last year.
In OConcono Massachusetts on July 26 a bold attempt to rob the Concord bank was made by burglars who entered through an upper window. The crew damaged a safe door but the attempt appears unsuccessful with no injuries reported.
A limited express engine jumping the track near Canton Ohio at 2 15 this morning caused a wreck. Engineer Pat Morgan escaped with slight injuries. Baggage and dining cars left the rails but were not wrecked. Passengers unharmed. trains delayed four hours. Bruce Carr Did Insult Colored People. Levi Christy and LD Christy deny Carr's remarks and affirm a World accusation that he implied Republicans oppose voting rights with reference to the fifteenth amendment.
Kalamazoo Michigan July 25 Chicago crooks Richard Devereux and Wm Smith pleaded guilty to blowing open the Kalamazoo spring and axle works safe and were sentenced to five years each. Judge Buck first gave a light sentence but after discovery of their true character he re sentenced Devereaux ten years and Smith nine.
The Bass works rapidly installs new machinery in its machine department to create a premier equiped facility. A ten foot turning and boring mill weighing twenty seven tons and costing six thousand dollars will be placed, built by Niles tool works of Hamilton Ohio. It will turn a sixteen foot pulley in sixteen hours and is renowned among local machinists.
Indiana July 25 Senator Brownlee and northern Republicans urge Congressman Steele for governor citing his record on the soldiers home at Marion and veteran orphans relief. They claim he would win 5,000 more votes than any rival and meet every voter in the state. Republican managers have already fixed on Porter as the nominee.
Ottawa July 27 Special to the Toledo Bee reports an Enquirer dispatch claiming Mahoning trains captured, but facts show trains ran on regular time to Ottawa with the evening train late. Construction continues with switches being installed at McCullough's gravel pit and at Moffit's amid cattle arrivals awaiting shipment.
Mrs Emiline Parent wife of Hiram Parent of Milan township died Wednesday at her son in law Albion Bairs residence 329 West Washington street of cholera morbus aged fifty seven She came to the city Friday to visit her daughter and fell ill the next day Her funeral was held last Saturday morning from the Wayne street M E church Mr Parent a prominent local farmer enjoys wide sympathy from friends in his bereavement.
Tiffin plans a vigorous push to secure a road line through the city. A committee including Gen. W. H. Gibson Jacob Scheiber J M Hershberger from the board of trade and E B Myers Louis Ulrich from the city council will confer with road officials to obtain the location through Tiffin.
Wasana July 27 John W O Hara of Bunker Hill Miami county was nominated yesterday by the democrats of the Twenty seventh judicial circuit for prosecuting attorney with no opposition The district includes Wabash and Miami counties and is usually republican but the nomination is regarded as a good one
A movement among United States soap makers to form a trust shows promise after a New York meeting. Plans for organization were discussed with a forthcoming meeting to finalize the group. The association would regulate prices and production and seek legislation to protect manufacturers.
The grain elevator at the Wabash depot in Roanoke was destroyed by fire on Wednesday night. The blaze burned for about a period of time, with the origin of the fire known but details scant. No further injuries are reported.
Chicago report states Robert Henderson of Silver City Idaho, a millionaire, was found in his Ogden House room in a coma with gas exhausted. Doctors fear for his recovery amid foul play and possible suicide theories. John Sommers, a saloon keeper and nephew, shot dead his uncle last night after family troubles.
