Indianapolis June 17 Major G V Menzies of Mt Vernon spoke to ease Kern supporters’ nerves amid rumors he and followers would bolt the Democratic caucus when Kern is nominated. He backed Kern, said he would campaign for him, and noted no hard feelings over the state convention result. Some rivals seek legislative nominations to show a potential split, but Kern’s backers deny disloyalty and expect unified support.
In the hot weather a refreshing Tea and Cake event was served during a free Aristos Flour demonstration held in the Tea Room opposite Lyric Theatre. G. E. Bursley & Co organized the display for attendees.
A mutiny by Chinese crew on the British steamship Highland Monarch bound for Auckland led to a melee and four drownings as seamen fought aboard near the Schuylkill river. The English crew subdued the rioters, and the ship sailed with the Chinese in irons, some leaping overboard during the escape attempt.

Mr. William Lee has been appointed to lead the Ladto school system and will leave New Haven soon to prepare for September term. He came from Huntington County and has earned strong support for his school work. no successor named yet in New Haven.
