8 000 000 Letters From the Boys in France

Three shipments of home-bound mail from the American army totaled 8 560 000 letters between November and December. The prior week added 6 000 000 letters, an increase likely driven by the father’s letters campaign. The Stars and Stripes, official EEF newspaper, said the letters would be delivered.

Aviation officers killed in fall in California

Lieutenants Herbert N. Chaffee of Pasadena and Charles J. Mankato of Kansas, both pursuit pilots and instructors at Rockwell Field San Diego, died when their airplane plunged 8000 feet into a backyard in the southern part of Los Angeles.
