Bishop Esher Climbs Train Roof for 50 Mile Ride
Bishop John J. Esher aged 72 head of the Evangelical association of Illinois Ohio and Pennsylvania clung to a moving sleeper on a fast train traveling 50 miles an hour. Heavy sleet and rain cut his flesh as he rode the lower step from Reddick Illinois to Englewood then Dearborn. A porter pulled him inside and stimulants revived him. The bishop said it was the roughest trip of his life.
