Reports from Rome on March 4 quote a 5 000 Italian deaths at Andova and a brutal retreat. public rioting spreads as garrisons stay under arms and troops clash with crowds in Milan and other cities. Masses for the dead are held nationwide.
Fifty dozen men’s night robes placed on sale at 49 to 60 cents each. Prices are about half of their value. M. Frank & Co. promotes the sale to clear stock.
Late today John Griffith, previously arrested at the Pittsburg depot, was arrested by Detective Doc Stoll on suspicion of crime. A Buffalo Y M C A card led to officials intervening after Acting Mayor Huser and Secretary McCaughey vouched for him. A Buffalo police telegram labeled Griffith a crook with a prior Elmyra reformatory term. Stoll pressed the arrest after Griffith left the Y M C A building.
The Jeffersonville homicide of Charles G. Scannel baffles investigators as police believe the man used a false identity linked to a Troy New York chief of police. Coroners cannot locate relatives and a full name may never be learned. The report notes the murderers may never be caught. Holmes Must Die. Prinupeenia reports the state supreme court upheld a first degree murder verdict for Herman W. Mudgety.
Police remove John Huffman who was found intoxicated last night at Mayor Oakley’s home. He has spent the winter in Fort Wayne with frequent arrests and nightly outbursts. He leaves this afternoon for Lima to be gone for an indeterminate period.
Owen McGuire, 73, a longtime Fort Wayne telegraph operator born in Ireland, dies of Bright's disease after two years of illness. He leaves four children in Michigan and Fort Wayne. funeral Friday at 9:30 from Cathedral after viewing at 16 Baker Street. Frederick Buelow, 54, dies after heart paralysis at Bass Foundry. funeral Friday at 9:30 from home and Zion's Lutheran Church. Frank Furburg, 70, dies at 35 John Street. funeral Thursday at 9 a.m. Also: Rubber Stamps up to Date advertises stamping service by Gust Olson with same-day fulfillment.
In February 1895 Father McGlaughlin of Benton Harbor was convicted of violating the marriage license law by marrying John T. McNamar and Emma Nagle without a license. He was fined $100 and appealed, but the Michigan Supreme Court sustained the law and affirmed the priest’s conviction.
Mr E H Doud of Ney Ohio bought the Rich meat market at 94 Barr Street this morning. He teams with Homer VanMeter a skilled butcher. The new firm will serve the large Rich & Son trade and sell only the choicest meats inviting public patronage. The sale was arranged through Everett and Doud.
Dennis Monahan the hatter and haberdasher made an assignment to satisfy creditors at 11 this morning. John Morris Jr was made trustee for preferred creditors and the store closed for inventory as liabilities reach about 4000 dollars. Monahan cites dull collections and money demands by wholesale houses as causes and vows creditors will receive dollar for dollar.
The Bee Hive announces the Morene Skirt and Silk Waist in full assortment. Consumers can view the latest fabric choices and sizes in-studio this week.
The Post reports a out of court settlement where Olds Wagon Works confessed judgment for back wages penalties and attorneys fees. Workers who sued were told they would be reemployed and no lasting prejudice exists between the company and 27 plaintiffs aided by stockholder Hon. Charles McCulloch.
A large audience welcomed the Frost and Fanshawe company for a second night at the Empire. They presented the 3 act comedy The Country Postmaster with new stage settings and many specialties and were well received. Tonight they perform The Two Orphans in what is a city premiere at popular prices, expected to draw a large crowd.

Work on a new telephone line between Lima and Fort Wayne has started and is progressing rapidly. The route runs via Delphos and Van Wert and will connect with the Western Telephone and Telegraph company. A shipment of about 1000 poles arrived in the city yesterday for the project.
