Weeks Sentenced to Five Years for Embezzlement in Indian Territory
William T. Weeks, former Hartshorn postmaster and Democratic central committee chairman, was sentenced by Judge Parker in Fort Suir Arkansas to five years in the Columbus Ohio penitentiary for embezzlement. The case drew a large stir as no one explained the missing funds totaling about 7000, with deposits and reports sparse from March 1895 to July arrest. The office handled roughly 2000 per month in that period.

Jumps Into Canal Ends Life of Cincinnati Manufacturer
Philip H. Carey, 42, head of the Philip Carey Manufacturing Co maker of asbestos materials, committed suicide by jumping into the canal near Lockland this morning. He left his horse at the spot and was seen entering the water by George Fox of Friend & Fox paper mills. Carey's body was pulled from the canal 15 minutes later, lifeless. He was wealthy, unmarried, and had received $30,000 in insurance after a fire destroyed his property a year ago. Ill health is given as the cause.
