Windrath Victim or Victimizer Hanged in Chicago Jail Case

Joseph Windrath was executed at noon in Cook County Jail for the June 23, 1895 murder of Carey Birch, cashier of the West Side Street Car Company. Officials and doctors described him as feigning insanity, while supporters say he remained calm and depicted the act as a sham. Governor Altgeld refused to intervene.

Triangle Club Boys Make Fast Time at Montpelier

The Triangle Cycle club had two riders in the 15 mile handicap road race at Montpelier Ohio yesterday. Phil Hess and Ora Goff won prizes with Goff taking third time and Hess fourth time. Hess started from scratch with Brown Bigelow Fuller and Eldfield. Runway won first place and later second time in the Chicago race on May 30. Fort Wayne riders are sharpening form as shown by the Montpelier race.
