June 4 reports a mob hanged Mayor Walbridge in effigy at a torn city center. Citizens condemned his refusal of outside aid and denounced his actions, as relief delays, dangerous wrecks, and missing bodies stirred fears. A public meeting followed at Fleishman’s saloon.
The McDevitt family including Lizzie and a Claytonville hired man were poisoned at breakfast by arsenic-laced coffee. McDevitt and the worker recovered while Lizzie may not. William Strally, once a suitor, is suspected after threats. he was arrested at Tipton after Hoopeston residents identified him. Special summer excursion rates from all stations on Nickel Plate line to Lanwood Park Vermillion Ohio.
The Travelers' Protective association voted to push for a state law establishing a two cent per mile fare for all passengers. The session was secret and officials declined to disclose details. The plan envisions railroads facing organized traveler lobbying and a railroad committee to lead the campaign.

Joseph Seamen aged 18 a student at the International Business College and living at 18 West Washington Street narrowly escaped death by drowning in the St Marys River yesterday afternoon at about 4 o clock. He was unconscious for 80 minutes after rescue and later recovered enough to leave the hospital. John Riley a member of the True Blues swam downstream to aid Seamen and after Seamen sank a third time Riley dived and dragged him to shore. Riley fainted upon reaching land. The Nickel Plate road offers home seekers excursion tickets to the south on several dates June through October and the Pennsylvanian lines announce Denver excursions for June 12 and 13.
Mr A B White submits a second application to the board of public works seeking a street railway franchise. The plan requires building the New Haven Fort Wayne segment before city franchise activation, with forfeiture and voiding of the city grant if operation is not started. The board is expected to take up the matter.
During the Annual Convention of Photographers’ Association of America at Celeron New York on Chautauqua Lake June 20 to 30 the Nickel Plate road offers round trip tickets at one fare. A horse hit a patrol box at the corner of Calhoun and Berry streets last night when a heavy vehicle attached to a Trans fer company base shied. The impact crushed the box and broke police telephone wires.

Charles F W Thieme, ex fireman, became telephone clerk at central fire station. New rules by Superintendent Gorsline were read and adopted. No officers were required to surrender badges yet, but heads may roll at the next meeting. The 6 year old Katie Mayhew, abducted eleven years ago while en route to Sunday school, has been identified after a long search. Her mother, once an invalid, learned of the child’s whereabouts in a letter from New York describing two tramps who kept her in a cave before handing her to her father in California. The family has moved through Australia and New York, with the girl now seeking contact with relatives while authorities guard her location.
