Murders in Maryland Strike for Robbery

In LaPonta Maryland April 25 the bodies of Mrs. Joseph Cocking and Miss Daisy Miller were found in the Cockings Hilltop store. Both women were killed with a blunt instrument while upstairs. Joseph Cocking was bound and wounded but may recover. Robbery is the motive. A second item notes a wall paper sale at L O Hull 90 Calhoun Street.

Deadly streetcar crashes injure man and horse

A Hanna streetcar, likely driven by an inexperienced motorman, caused several accidents around 5 pm. It struck a delivery wagon at Pittsburg crossing, scattering contents, hit Julius Young’s farm wagon on Douglas Ave, sending horse and harness into a tangle, and threw a passenger to the ground. Nearby Fred Peters’s horse stumbled, breaking a leg and being killed. Also note an advertisement for cash purchases of summer suits at 414 West Main.

Coffee floods Bemont Rena store flue in Terre Haute

In Terre Haute Indiana a Bemont and Rena wholesale grocery building suffered coffee filling a flue from third floor to basement after bricks in the chimney were loosened. About ten barrels of coffee flowed out as an employee suspected of theft amid missing coffee accounts and coupons offering bicycles.
