District 97 to receive Title VII funds for reading and math

District 97 will receive 194 660 in Title VII federal funds to provide comprehensive reading and math services mainly for minority students. The district had posted for a Title VII program director and staff after federal encouragement, and was initially rejected in March for lack of stated need for desegregation, later showing eligibility via a May letter from state Superintendent Joseph Cronin noting Hawthorne School failed state racial balance guidelines.
