Thanksgiving week closures and community events in Forest Park

Forest Park and Proviso East High School observe Thanksgiving with no classes on November 24 and 25 and resume November 21. Community programs include Han sel and Gretel opera at Field Stevenson auditorium on December 10–11 with tickets 2 adults 1 child, roller skating trips, luminaria displays, Christmas Crafts classes for multiple age groups, a talk by Dr. Urban Fleege at the Montessori School, Laurel and Hardy movie night, a Beauty and the Beast trip for the library, and a desert luncheon hosted by Christ Lutheran church with Proviso East Madrigal Singers.

Forest Park store proprietor charged with mistreating child

Jeremiah Curran owner of the Forest Printing Company was placed under one year supervision by Judge John J. Hogan for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The case involved a 16 year old boy and Curran began psychological therapy at Oak Park Family Services.

District 209 Board rejects housing request for Way Back Inn

District 209 Board of Education denied Way Back Inn’s request to house 13 residents in Proviso East gymnasium citing the heating system and security locks. The panel approved a 1979 state Title IV grant for remedial audio visual equipment and raised student lifeguards pay to 2.50. Also approved were auditorium bookings for the Washington Knights of Columbus and Maywood Recreation Department for events in December and June.

Motor fuel tax funds allocated to Forest Park

Illinois municipalities shared ten million one hundred seven thousand seven hundred ninety six dollars in motor fuel tax for October. Forest Park village received fifteen thousand nine hundred thirty four dollars. Allocation is computed by population and funds go to streets and highways.

Forest Park Opens Snowfall Readiness Teams

Operation Snowfall crews stand by from Nov 15 to March 15 with five two man teams plus two seasoned backups. Forest Park plans six salt and plow units and parking lot and sidewalk clearing gear and will monitor the Weather Bureau and police radio for icing threats.

Forest Park Mayor Clarifies Liquor License Ordinance

Mayor Santo Rizzo said the measure adds a fourth category for beer and wine for two restaurant-type licenses and aims to curb taverns. Village Clerk William McKenzie noted the change clarifies ambiguity from the July liquor license ordinance.
