The Chicago Transit Board awarded James McHugh Construction Company a 5.55 million dollar contract to build a modern rapid transit terminal on Des Plaines Avenue Forest Park for the Eisenhower route. Construction will start next month and run about two years with two thirds federal Urban Mass Transportation Administration funding and one third local Illinois Department of Transportation support. The current terminal has served since 1958 as a temporary facility and the Des Plaines project is a joint CTA engineering effort with the new facility replacing it.

Jack Williams and challenger Robert Guerine remains unsettled after election night tallies showed conflicting figures and errors overestimated Guerine’s votes. Official canvass results imminent. observers report Williams ahead by about 1,000 in some tallies while Guerine claims miscounted totals.
Mayor Mohr urged a new modern department with an inspection division under one commissioner to strengthen Forest Park governance. Three commissioners opposed delaying decisions on duties and structure, while debates centered on outside commissioners and the layout of the general superintendent position.
Voter totals kept all eyes on election night as Rep. Jack B. Williams D-5th appeared to lose to Republican Robert Guerine, a result now disputed.Major victor was Rep. Ted Leverenz D-5th who led a four-man field, with Rep. Edward Bluthardt R-5th also holding his seat.
