Senators split on ERA vote in Illinois Senate
Illinois senators showed mixed views on the rejected Equal Rights Amendment. Sen. Philip Rock supported the measure, Sen. Howard Mohr opposed it, and Sen. Raymond Welsh was absent for the vote. The 29 to 22 defeat follows three similar defeats, with Rock arguing equality under law and Mohr warning of unforeseen consequences. Welsh, facing federal indictment and absent for the vote, said he would have opposed it.
