Religious Education Starts Oct.5 in Forest Park
Beginning Thursday morning October 5 at 9 a.m. Weekday religious instruction for Forest Park children will resume. Churches involved include St Peter's Lutheran St Pauls Lutheran First Baptist St Berhardine Catholic Community Methodist Reformed Evangelical and First Presbyterian. Parents urged to indicate preferred church on forms. Third to eighth graders will be excused from 9 to 11 a.m. each Thursday for religious training.

Fall Festival Parade Sets Route and Prizes
The Fall Festival Parade will start Monday night at 7 30 on Jackson between Desplaines and Madison facing Des Plaines. It proceeds Des Plaines to Madison then east to Kigan and disbands. Forest Park Gas Station Burglary Leads to Police Shooting
Forest Park reports its first burglary in weeks as a gas station at 7204 Washington Boulevard is robbed. The suspect Pan Youngblae allegedly forced $160 from a clerk. Oak Park officers, led by Sgt. Frank Lawrence, later shot another suspect, Joe Scelere, near a North Avenue station as he tried to flee, identifying him as the Forest Park bandit.

The Forest Park council struggled over a proposed industrial use for 34 Circle Avenue as zoning would not permit such a business. Mr. Forster argued the tenant’s case but Commissioner Calcaglio ruled no action could be taken due to zoning. Dr. M Louise Sawyer Dies After Long Illness
Dr. M Louise Sawyer longtime Forest Park resident and noted botanist and educator dies after a year of illness at 424 Elgin Avenue Saturday September 23. She taught at Providence Travashire Ingh school later earning a PhD at the University of Chicago and taught at Wells before a 31 year teaching career. She was active in the League of Women Voters Round Table Christians and Jews and Presbyterians. Funeral services held September 24 at 2 pm in the chapel 124 Madison Street with interment in Forest Park Cemetery. She is survived by sister Anna Grace and brother Dr Alvah J Sawyer.

The Forest Park Moose 1071 will have a stand at Hannah Avenue and Madison Street during the Mall Festival. They sponsor a Buessing contest with a prize to be shown on festival day and are arranging a parade float. An information booth opens every evening.

Rowals of the horseshoe event at the park on September 16 and 17 produced multiple champions. In Junior Boys Thomas Cubin beat Huckley 52 to 25 and 51 to 23, Senior Boys Lawrence Pelletier defeated Lemm 52 to 3, Nicholls Cardella won the Men’s Single 52 to 3, and the Men’s Doubles pairing Anetin and Sehlemint beat Cardella and Zockert 50 to 46. Police Benefit Draws Record Attendance
A large crowd estimated at about 20 000 attended the police benevolent association event at Melady Mill in Belfast according to Police Chief Fred Licht. The fund raiser was organized by William Kern and a committee including Acthar dese Edward Schuiltz Karl Starbeck Morris Jacobs Charley Steger Marcy Beggs and Henry Meyer. They sold tickets and the turnout signaled strong public support for the charity.
