Forest Park schools started the new year with teachers and pupils in place. The Rosa School opens to ease crowded conditions on the south side. Several new teachers join principals and staff across Grant, Garfield, and Field schools, while enrollment figures are still being finalized.

Kiwanis to Be Salvation Army Guests

Kiwanis members will gather at the Salvation Army Rescue Home at 5040 Crawford next Monday evening. They will meet at Otte's Restaurant at 6 p.m. before driving to the home for dinner and a tour of the facility to learn about its work. The club postponed meetings over Labor Day. the group will henceforth meet on Tuesdays unless a holiday overrides, with a recent change moving this week’s date to Monday and then to Thursday thereafter.

Runaway Car Hits Jahr Auto in Davensport Trip

Mr and Mrs Jahr and their son Arthur Jr. were driving to Davenport Iowa when a runaway Chevrolet from California collided with their Vonek near Morris. Mrs Jahr suffered severe head injuries needing stitches. Mr Jahr was badly bruised. son unhurt. Car to be towed to Forest Park for repair.

Cabaret license refused by Forest Park council

The Forest Park council rejected the cabaret license for The Lodge at 7427 Roosevelt Road after debate. Mayor Kaul and Commissioners Briach Michalsky voted against. Burkart Zimmerman voted for. The measure failed to gain a majority, leaving the establishment without cabaret, saloon, or cigarette licenses.

Henze couple injured in Big Train Wreck at Clybourne Junction

August Henze and Mery Henze of 110 Ma renan were riding the rear train when a collision with the ahead train caused the coach to crash. Mrs Henze suffered a bruised chin as the car was jolted and jammed amid wreckage. Mr Henze, a caretaker at Legion hall, was accompanying her after an outing at Palatine.

Narrow escape at Bad Crossing as train nears

Mrs William J. Pohlman of Marengo, 46, suffered a broken wrist and escaped being run over when a rough crossing plank trapped her hand as a Metropolitan third rail train approached. She tumbled, freed herself, and was taken to Dr. Jenkins’ office then Oak Park hospital. The gate man urged her away as the train neared while repairs followed that afternoon. her son William Pohlman Jr. photographed the crossing for potential evidence.

Rafferty's Mother in Big Wreck at Lybour n Junction

Mrs Mary Rafferty of Berwyn and her eight year old grandson Martin Keele survived a train wreck on the Northwestern railroad at Lybour n Junction. They were rescued from a crushed car, with Mrs Rafferty pinned and fearing fire as firefighters freed them. Seven were killed and many injured when two oil cars telescoped after an engine struck from the rear. The engineer remained in hospital under arrest and a coroner’s jury sought the cause.
