Bataan Day Parade Planned for September 11

The western suburb prepares for a September 11 Bataan Day parade commemorating the 15th anniversary of U S Army survivors from Company 8 192nd Tank Battalion. Miss Bataan finalists include ten young women. Miss Bataan will be chosen at Hines Veterans Hospital with the Queen presiding over the Pageant of Drums at Proviso East Stadium.

Proviso Evening School Enrollment Tonight For Fall Term

Proviso Evening School continues fall term enrollment tonight at Proviso East Library from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Registration also set for Wednesday and Thursday September 7 and 8. Director A B Judd says many classes are full or have few openings and urges prompt sign ups to determine which courses run after September 8.

St John Lutheran School Adds Three New Teachers

St John Lutheran School announces three new staff additions. Donna Hasse, from Nashua Minnesota, will teach grade two after graduating from Concordia Teachers College River Forest. Carol Muche from Mayville Wisconsin will serve as supply teacher for this year. Martin Jungkunzt from Wil afeodal will join as part time seventh grade teacher with prior experience as Westmont Illinois principal.

Circle Avenue Overpass Ribbon Cutting Saturday

A ribbon cutting for the Circle Avenue Overpass is set for 10 a.m. Saturday with State, County and Village officials attending. Congressman Harold Collier will also be present, as the event marks the culmination of planning that would remove homes along Circle to build the Expressway segment.

Businessmen to Honor Rep Walker at Forest Park Luncheon

State Rep. Claude A. Walker of Forest Park will be honored by local businessmen at a Sept. 13 luncheon at Otto's restaurant. Forest Park National Bank president Howard Sammon chairs the event. Tickets are sold out. Speakers include Conan, Harold Collier, and State Senator Arthur Bidwell.

Robbery at Golden's Corner Nets $195

Two men entered Golden's Corner at 7200 Circle on Friday night and demanded cash after a clerk, Sam Hoffman, placed a bottle of ginger ale on the counter. A gun was shown and money totaling $195 was taken before the pair fled.

Women Crossing Guards Sought for City Safety Program

Police Chief Joseph Cortino will accept applications from local women for crossing guard and related jobs as schools reopen next week. He notes five male helpers currently, with openings for women and substitutes. uniforms will be furnished. The new program aims to maximize safety during school commuting.

Members of the Proviso Township Republican Organization chose Morton Anderson for the Cook County Sanitary Commissioners post after the April primary. Despite a death in the Board, GOP members pledged support across all 145 precincts to ensure Proviso representation on the Sanitary District.

Burglars Take the Bacon at Harry's

Burglars stole from Harry's Quality Meats at 443 Madison. Owner Harry Raimondi reports $550 worth of meat and equipment taken including two rump roasts a box of bacon and an adding machine. Entry gained by forcing a rear door Thursday night.

Expert Medal for Dick Hoeschele

Richard Hoeschele, 13, of 432 Hanish, earned the Expert Rifleman medal, the second highest Ameri can Junior shooting award, after firing hundreds of targets and passing 13 lower NBA qualifications. He faces one more target set to reach the top Rifleman rating, and he becomes the 14th member of troop 108 Jr. Riflemen to achieve it in six years. The award will be presented at the parents night in October.

Mrs McCarthy at Bell Tel to mark 35 years of service

Mrs Myrtle W McCarthy of 244 Hannah will celebrate 35 years with Milneis Bell Telephone Co next week. Born in Chisago she began as a sorting clerk and rose through roles including senior clerk and supervising clerk. A member of the Telephone Pioneers of America she and her husband William live at the same address. she enjoys gardening photography and travel.
