Methodism in Forest Park celebrated a sixth year of Rev and Mrs Saunders at Community M B church. A rain drenched gathering heard pastors from nearby churches speak of friendship and Christian unity. A surprise sedan gift honored the Saunders and their service as the congregation enjoyed readings, music, and fellowship meals.
The meeting at Memorial Hall Monday evening endorsed the village council and Senator Fred B. Roos. An electic signal project was discussed with Attorney Meyer tasking to secure council consent at next Monday’s session.
Proviso High School students led by Gladys Lange and Ethel Peterson earned the Illinot Novice and 60 word tests at the Utne state typewriting contest in Chicago. Grace Imburgle and Rose Imburgle won the Underwood 80 word gold medals with top rates. Mrs Florence Evang Golding received a gold medal for training excellence in typing.
Rite Bailey three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Milton D Bailey 7251 Franklin street injured Sunday afternoon when her family car an Oakland touring was struck by a Dodge touring driven by J J Belzer at Desplaines avenue and Jackson boulevard. Bailey was driving east Belzer west on the same street near Desplaines avenue turning south cresting a near head on collision. Mrs Bailey and two other riders were in rear seat with the child injured. Belzer arrested charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Louis Mitchell king of the Canadian gypelea was laid to rest with a royal procession and a 1600 goffin. Twenty five courtiers joined the funeral train from New York while about 10,000 people viewed the bier and the widow carried a lit candle as the body left for the station.
A special meeting is planned by the association to review the elevated loss issue and its relations with the village of Forest Park. The gathering aims to clarify responsibilities and potential remedies in the ongoing dispute.
Henry Zaho building commissioner and village officials aided a distressed Oklahoma family stranded by floods. They located the family near Desplaines River, provided shelter on government land, secured work for the eldest son, and arranged aid through Associated Charities and Rev. Nachholz. Eight men pled guilty after Forest Park police seized slot machines from soft drink parlors two weeks earlier. Each faced $25 fines. devices were returned to owners. A Melrose Park buyer was noted as interested in the machines.
Nine men were indicted by the Cook county grand jury after Forest Park police pursued a forged check ring tied to late night activities on Madison street. One suspect, Arthur McNamara, confessed to forging checks totaling 240 dollars with others planned to share in illicit gains.
Police captured three youths linked to four burglaries in Oak Park area. John Kilian and associates Tronzer and Owen Sullivan confessed to stealing from Judge Murray, B. J. Mob’s checks, Sortino’s barber shop, and Buchholz & Huxhold’s office. Kilian identified the trio. Tronzer provided location details, with Sullivan arrested later. Most loot traced to a poolroom on Laffin and Yen.
Rev Gustav Groenlund longtime pastor of St Pauls Lutheran Forest Park left Sunday with his wife for New Orleans by car. Their son Ubirich lives there and works for Crane Elevator Co. The Groenlunds will stay in Louisiana city during the winter, 120 possibly.
Village leaders hear residents on Marengo Avenue north of Lehmer Street and south of Harris Street about sharing the cost of opening the street across the tracks. They invite Barr Collina and Broxham Dairy Co to discuss costs and consider public benefit funding, with court action planned if needed.
A man was attacked as he stepped from a Metropolitan train at the Harlem avenue station in Forest Park last Sunday around 1:30 pm, sustaining bruises. Four Oak Park youths James Rowley George Jack and others were arrested by Forest Park police and will face assault and battery charges before Police Magistrate Witt.
Walter W. L. Meyer a Forest Park area attorney and Oak Park resident was elected master in chancery of the Cook County Circuit Court after the death of William Munhall. Born in Chicago, he attended Northwestern and holds a law degree, with extensive local civic and professional ties. He will preside in chancery matters including accounting, injunctions, divorces and foreclosures.
Forest Park Kiwanis members backed Hon. Frederick B. Roos for Cook County Superior Court judge at a Friday gathering. The event featured a ladies night, a dinner at Otto's on the mall four, and a brief program including solos by Mrs. Koerber. A report on the Cook County forest preserves Boy Scout Act was also discussed with guest artist Galbraith Berber due to showcase paintings.
