Manslaughter Charges After Tavern Fight Death
Walter Lange and Robert Campbell face manslaughter charges over a September 26 confrontation at the Sing-A-Loon lounge in Forest Park that left Joseph Wood dead days later. Wood, 31, of Elgin, allegedly drank heavily, fought Campbell, and was carried away. Lange tended bar and aided Campbell. Wood died at County Hospital after convulsions and a fever of 106. Lange posted 10000 bond. Campbell is jailed awaiting October 20 hearing. The lounge license remains in Ed Hinz’s name.

Proviso Township High Schools Leader Gottfried Dies
Dr. F J Gottfried, longtime Proviso Township High Schools superintendent, died in Elyria Ohio of a coronary thrombosis after a Cleveland trip with his wife to bid farewell to their son. He had served as superintendent since 1953, previously leading Elyria schools and holding roles at several Ohio districts and universities. His service included teaching, administration, and visiting lecturer posts at Ohio State University and other institutions. Funeral services were held in Elyria with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery Upper Sandusky Ohio.
