Albert L Hall writes of a park show near the season, praising rural beauty and metropolitan lights. He extols Edison’s legacy, urban and suburban sightseeing, and the looming Christmas ads as banks advertise gifts and merchants display seasonal goods.
A three alarm blaze destroyed the Thodeffexs-Berger-Gazzola corner building at Madison and QGesplaines early Monday. Firefighters battled multiple outbreaks from 3 am, saving nearby structures including the Masonic Temple. Owner Frank Gazzola of Chicago faced enforcement over derelict repairs and removal orders.
The Rev. A. G. Wenninger, former St Pauls pastor now superintendent of the Lutheran Orphans Home at Waverly Illinois, visits Forest Park for the churchs golden anniversary. He preached an English sermon, toured the orphanage welfare of 97 children, and praised his work which keeps him in good health.

Merchants in Madison Street division of Forear Park Chamber of Commerce met at Albrighs restaurant Tuesday noon to finalize plans for the Harvest Sale in progress since Thursday noon and running to Thanksgiving Day. They planned to give dressed turkeys and stressed offering strong bargains. A parking plan was approved to prevent street congestion with block captains along Madison Street during business hours.
Mrs. Frederick Duval welcomes Grand Duke Boris and Duchess to her home in Forest Park. The party includes the Duke’s cousin, the late Czar’s relative, aboard from Europe. They will be hosted at Norbrook in Greenwich, Conn.
Mrs. Theresa Fassl aged thirty three died Friday at Oak Park hospital following an operation. Survived by husband Henry Fassl and two children Henry Jr aged 13 and Frank. Funeral services held at home 1108 Desplaines Avenue conducted by Rev Fr Nachholz of St Bernadine's Church. Burial at Mount Carmel.
Howard Krick died at Wesley Hospital in Chicago on Thursday November 21 at age twenty nine. He was a brother of Harry Krick of Forest Park with whom he had recently been living. He is survived by a wife and two small children. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the home of his sister at 2120 Fiftieth Place Cicero.
St Pauls marked its golden jubilee with sunny services and grand devotion. Speakers included Rev A G Wenninger Prof J Frieschel Rev G A Faudrey Rev A Buddenhagen Rev C Rembold and teacher F Lutz as the congregation welcomed many guests and neighboring churches.
Community Chest workers were hosted to a Thursday dinner at the Methodist church with the ladies serving. Attendance was smaller than expected as some counter attractions kept people away. Those present discussed the drive and the need for additional workers. Harlem State Savings Bank hosted the event.
Henry C. Rieck, surviving member of the firm that started twenty one years ago here, conducts closing out sale and plans to wind up by year end. He will then offer the building for rent as other interests require his time and he retires from mercantile business.
Rob Bowman’s dress shop at 7213 Madison Street was burglarized before six in the morning by five men in a truck who forced the front door and looted about 125 dresses and a few other items. The Harlan restaurant proprietor across the street alerted police. officers arrived after the thieves had fled.
Members of Karent Park police and firemen indoor baseball team were honored Tuesday evening by indoor league teams. They won the 1929 pennant and received a silver cup at Triangle Cafe in a speech by Mayor Gold. Chief Licht accepted as manager. Engraving lists police and firemen players. other league teams noted.

Forest Park residents vote today on two incinerator bond questions. Polls open 6 am to 4 pm with schoolhouses as voting places. One bond seeks 40000 dollars for an incinerator, the other 25000 dollars to buy a site. If both fail, garbage collection remains as is. If 40000 passes and 25000 fails, the council may build on the back lot of the Masonry Temple.
The Altenheim in Forest Park, also known as Altenhin or German People's Home, began on Madison Street after Chicago supporters formed a group to aid elderly orphans. The complex now includes four large buildings and houses over 200 elderly men and women. Superintendent William Bolining arrived last month, succeeding Theodore Walterhausen who led the institution for twenty years before his August death. The board comprises Chicago men and women.
Forest Lions Club will host the Sunday evening program at the Community M church meeting. RB G Murray will speak on The Inspirations of the Life of Thomas Edison. Murray, a special representative of the Public Service Co. of northern Michigan, ties to the Lights Golden Jubilee in Detroit.
Lee stars in Wise Girls while Lola Lane and Pay Page share honors in The Girl from Havana. Hal Skelly and Nancy Carroll head The Dance of Life as Lee Tracy is supported by Mae Clarke Josephine Dunn Daphne Pollard and Stephin Fetchit in Big Time.
The three act comedy What Anne Brought Home played to capacity audiences in St John’s Memorial Hall this week with a 9 member Young People's Society cast. Earl Ross directed the lively production about a small town family and a surprise marriage, featuring Ada Bennett and Dudley Purdy among a strong ensemble.
