Forest Park may issue a 700 634 bond to resurface five streets and install a new lighting system funded by a gas tax hike. Mayor Reich says revenues could cover payments for about 30 years with no local tax burden, but councilors seek more time amid concerns over gas tax volatility and total cost.
Police in Forest Park captured 20 year old Andrew White of Maywood after an assault on 27 year old Mary Roberts near Desplaines and Roosevelt. Roberts suffered a broken left arm, dislocated right fingers, and injuries from a screwdriver. White faced multiple prior arrests and awaits a May 29 court hearing before Judge Edward Schultz.
The annual tag day of the Forest Park Infant Welfare Society will be held on Tuesday June 3. Volunteers may call Mrs. M. Guardelebene president and chairman at FO G-1830 or Mrs. Kusenda at FO 2090 to offer aid.
City plans underground cable installation on Madison Street and Roosevelt Road replacing lantern fixtures with new luminaire and goose neck lights. Four traffic signals to be installed on Jon Jackson Boulevard with 31 signal heads for dead end streets.
Mrs. Lizzie A Chance marked her 94th birthday May 18 at her daughter Mrs Ilva Barr’s home 641 Beloit. A birthday cake and gifts highlighted the gathering. She has 30 grandchildren 59 great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. Guests included several grandchildren spouses and their families from Constan tine Merom Decatur and nearby areas.
The Pafume Accordion Band will present a concert at the Park Administration Building on May 25 at 2 PM. The program includes accordion solos duos and trios directed by Joseph Pafume of 1415 South Harlem.
The Bloomer Girls prepare for tonight’s charity game against the Bluebirds at Parlehy Memorial Stadium, first of five pre season matches before the official National Girls Baseball League opener on Thursday May 29. Lucella Moore joins Bloomer Girls, Ruth Mason moves to the Belles for Betty Tucker.
At Tuesday night’s Little League meeting in the Village Hall the committee chose four managers Wally Becker Art Schiewe Glenn Schiiting and John Zaphel Coaches will be Ed Masso Toby Zaphel and Bill Schleman They will be assigned to teams after screening 100 boys with 24 twelve year olds 36 clever olds and 30 in the 8 to 10 bracket A 15 player team will be set by each manager before the first official game The next Little League officials meeting is Tuesday at 8 p m
Forest Park pool, touted as the cleanest in Illinois, plans a June 15 opening. The Park District, led by Harley E. Schwass, will offer reduced rates for locals and issue identification cards for Grade school and Forest Park high school students to obtain lower admission. Non residents pay 35 cents for children and 60 cents for adults. Forest Park residents pay 25 cents for high school students with proof via letter to the district.
The Forest Park Police Benevolent Association hosts its 34th annual vaudeville show on June 14 and 15 at Proviso High School auditorium. Eight acts include The Four Wades and ventriloquists Egan and Darker. Officers will sell tickets door to door.
