Proviso Township High School teachers staged three one act plays in a Worthy Student Funk benefit on May 9 and 10 in the auditorium. The program featured Moonshine, Suppressed Desires, and The Florist Shop with Miss Florence Otis at the organ and J. J. Tallmadge, W. Nelson, and Miss Otis providing musical support. A sizable audience attended both evenings, with strong performances by Elizabeth Oakes, J. B. Adkins, Miss Hahn, Maude, Clara Johnson, and Miss Duvall, among others. The event proceeds go to Charlee Leicester of Forest Park for ticket sales.
A large audience attended Proviso’s Musical Program at Forest Park school as the Foret Park Parent-Teacher association showcased the high school orchestra, Girls Glee Club, and vocal numbers under H Ler Osburn. Speakers included Charles H. Herzog and Mrs. Hannah Hardin, highlighting education, health programs, and state PTA activities with emphasis on keeping graduates in school and expanding funds.
Mrs Florence Epstein of Chicago, wife of Dr William George Epstein, was killed in the Cleveland Clinic blast. Daughter of George H Simpson of Acme Manufacturing, Oak Park, she accompanied her husband to Cleveland. They had two children, Mary Virginia and Billie. Funeral services were set for today.
A delivery truck operated by West Suburban Nickel Plating struck six year old Vivian Vardon near 1107 Beloit Avenue leaving her with a broken leg and head lacerations. She was taken to Oak Park Hospital for treatment. Other incidents include Earl Pionoto bruised on 43th and Marenge, and Andrew Teffel badly hurt with a skull fracture after a collision on Harrison Street.
Mr Lamber of Lauther's Hardware Space says customers seek authoritative advice on interim decoration problems. Reverend Frederick J. Schnell, pastor of Community Methodist Episcopal Church in Forest Park, will preach the baccalaureate in the Proviso Township High School auditorium on Sunday evening June 2. He has been in Forest Park just over a year, and his energetic, appealing leadership has gained local regard as the mothers of the graduating class selected him for the sermon.
The village sets four polling precincts for the bond election. Precinct 1, Grant school, North of Madison street. Precinct 2, Garfield school, Madison street to Metropolitan tracks. Precinct 3, Eugene at school, Metropolitan tracks to Sevelt road. Precinct 4, Benny Rove oak, south of Koose ser Wear. Polls open 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Forest Lions held a Father and Sons day meeting at 6 30 P M with borrowed sons for those without them. A dinner by Albright and watch dial badges from Elgin National Watch Co were given. Judge Miegretti spoke on juvenile court work. Next week, annual election nominations were made for officers and directors.
Carl Mader, a Texas band conductor, received from Bryan an appointment as one of three judges in a statewide contest sponsored by the Texas Chamber of Commerce on May 6 and 7. Thirty six bands with about 1,500 musicians competed, and on the judging night Mader was honored to conduct a concert featuring bands. His compositions are played by many large military bands, earning him favorable publicity and a hoped-for important position.
Forest Social Club plans a July festival in Harrison and Delphine from July 15th, with a village council permit granted Monday. The council approved condolence resolutions for the death of Frank Lange, longtime village trustee and father of Frank Lange, and reviewed licenses for 1929 with Dr William C. Mimalow presenting the health report.
Forty-two men joined the Braternal Order of Eagles at Fore est Park Aerie No LH in a Thursday ceremony led by Grant school soluitoritnn. Former Senator Frederick A. Roos delivered the initiatory address commemorating Mothers Day. The ceremony featured local officers Henry C. Meyer and Carl A. Hethke. Garfield Aerie members participated in the initiation of a long list of candidates. Afterward, about 200 attendees adjourned to the Randolph Desplaines hall for a long lunch.
Forest Park police station adopts new number 1313 with Joyston board and three trunk lines. Chief’s office hosts an extrus sion phone and seventeen other extensions linking to police boxes around the village. Desks and patrols reallocated with Heen and Hartneck on desk duty, Sergeants Zimerman and Mayer assigned to streets, rotating day and night shifts by month.
Otto Gorke Jr a longtime Forest Park resident opened a new hardware and paint store at 7510 Madison Street after previously operating in Austin at 5400 W. Division Street. The store will stock builders hardware paints garden tools and household supplies with a grand opening planned for late June.
