Fuses and Flares Spark Warning From Safety Council
The National Safety Council warns that fuses and railroad flares are a dangerous Fourth of July fad despite bans on fireworks. In 1960 Illinois saw 68 injuries requiring medical care from fireworks and fusees, seven burns mainly among children under nine. The NSC urges using these devices only for distress signaling and not as safe substitutes. Card of Thanks from Mrs. Walter Eggers thanks Forest Park Police for prompt help.
